This fall, Storyteller House presents "The Kitchen," a new work by Laura Holloway.
The cast and crew will gather at Cookeville Performing Arts Center for four nights of intense rehearsal before premiering the play in New York for an invited audience. Rehearsals at CPAC will be open to the public for a small ticket fee.
Barney Martin is dying. In fact, he's been dying for years, but now the children and grandchildren have been called back home to Rose Hill, Mississippi to say their goodbyes. As they gather at the family home, it becomes increasingly apparent that they've been led astray, in more ways than one. Forced together in a home where they each lived very different childhoods, the family members take solace in the kitchen, sifting through their grandmother's recipes and their shared pasts, and revealing their current hidden truths. It's family, and it's sickness, and it’s death, and somehow, thankfully, that also means it's comedy.

Our only glimpses of the restaurant are through the muted sounds of restaurant fodder, the tinkling and increasing laughter at the bar, and sometime soon after the show starts, music, a solo singer, background except with the opening and closing of the bathroom door. Isn't it interesting what happens in the privacy of the bathroom?
